Reunion Tip: Talent show

Hold a talent show or play theatre sports to break the ice and bond further.

Bring a box of old keepsakes, split in to groups (by age, height, office vs production or family groups) and get each team to pull a keepsake out of the box and tell every one why this keepsake was the best / worst memory for the group.

Katy Perry's has her revenge on SNL

Dumped from Sesame Street, US pop star Katy Perry has taken her revenge on American television.

The California Gurls singer, whose guest appearance was deemed too sexy for the long-running children's show last week, has received a much warmer welcome from comedy sketch favourite Saturday Night Live overnight.

Perry filmed a segment for SNL's mock chat show Bronx Beat, dressed in a skin-tight Elmo T-shirt, cut open to reveal the cleavage which offended YouTube viewers and saw her booted from Sesame Street's New Year's Eve episode line up.

The 25-year-old had filmed a musical number with Elmo for the show but parents complained her low-cut dress and ample cleavage was inappropriate for youngsters when the clip was previewed online.

In her poke at producers, Perry last night played the role of library volunteer Maureen, who had been told by staff to wear "looser-fitting clothing" to work around children.

Bouncing up and down on the Bronx Beat couch, a buxom Perry was consoled by hosts Amy Poehler and Maya Rudolph, who told her "boobs feed babies, alright."

I see CSI last night and there's a dead guy with worm in his eye and we can't watch the top of boobs?" Rudolph said.

"So dumb, America."

Perry took to Twitter on Friday to express her surprise at being axed from Sesame Street. Her fiance Russell Brand has also used the social networking site to joke about the decision.

"Sesame Street will NOT be brought to you by the number 34 or the letter D," he wrote before asking Perry: "Can you tell me how to get, how to get to Sex-with-me Street?"

Setember's Band to keep an eye on - Now, Now Every Children

Now, Now Every Children

Minneapolis duo Now, Now Every Children may not have a tour or new record scheduled for 2010 as of yet but you can bet your bottom dollar that it’ll still be an exciting year for the pair and their fans. It was late last year that many of us were introduced to their catchy, indie-rock when they opened for platinum selling band Paramore on their UK/European tour, where they received an overwhelmingly positive response resulting in pleads for them to return and a fantastic fan website (www.nownoweverychildren.net/). Currently in the demo stages of their follow-up to popular debut Cars the band are playing shows around their hometown to keep themselves busy. Keep an eye on these two, you never quite know whats going to happen next.

Katy Perry's puppies to big for Sesame Street

In what is sure to be a professional first, singer Katy Perry's breasts appear to have got in the way of a television career.

The US pop star has become the latest celebrity to film a segment for children's show Sesame Street, re-recording her 2009 chart hit Hot 'N Cold with new, child-friendly lyrics.

The two minute clip, which is yet to go to air and features Perry chasing around puppet favourite Elmo, was posted on YouTube on Monday and is already nudging 1 million views.

While Perry's excruciatingly hammy acting has made her the butt of internet jokes all week, it seems millions of children will be spared her performance following complaints from parents over her "inappropriate" cleavage-baring outfit. - stuff.co.nz

Free Gig For Christchurchians

http://www.theponses.blogspot.com/
New Zealand musicians are joining together for a benefit gig Band Together Concert for Canterbury, to be held in North Hagley Park on October 23.

Prime Minister John Key, Mayor Bob Parker, Auckland promoter Paul Ellis and Opshop frontman Jason Kerrison announced the upcoming show at Canterbury University today while Key was visiting students to thank them for their clean up efforts in the wake of the earthquake.

"It's been overwhelming how many people have wanted to become involved in this project. Since I've been home I've really noticed how shook up people are by the earthquake. You don't realise how much when you're not here on the ground. I hope this concert will be a chance for the people of Christchurch to both let off some steam and know that the rest of the country is behind them 100% It will run from 12 noon to 10pm and will be televised live from 6pm-10pm,'' Kerrison told The Press.

The line-up for the free concert contains a strong Christchurch contingent including Anika Moa, Opshop, the Feelers, Dane Rumble and J Williams alongside other household names like Dave Dobbyn and the Exponents who are reforming. Their song Christchurch (In Cashel Street I Wait) is the theme song of the event.

Kerrison says that Christchurch group Shapeshifter had hoped to be part of the event but, because of a date clash, would not be involved. However, they are hoping to stage their own fundraising shows when they can.

If you would like to donate to the Christchurch earthquake relief efforts you can visit the Red Cross website.

Record Club - INXS

Record Club is an informal meeting of various musicians to record an album in a day. The album chosen to be reinterpreted is used as a framework. Nothing is rehearsed or arranged ahead of time. A track is put up here once a week. The songs are rough renditions, often first takes that document what happened over the course of a day as opposed to a polished rendering. There is no intention to 'add to' the original work or attempt to recreate the power of the original recording. Only to play music and document what happens.

Liars, Annie Clark and Daniel Hart from St. Vincent, Sergio Dias from the legendary Brazilian band Os Mutantes, as well as RC veteran Brian Lebarton, just back from the Charlotte Gainsbourg tour. The record covered this time was 1987 blockbuster ‘Kick’ by INXS.

Jimi Hendrix - West Coast Seattle Boy.

http://www.jimihendrix.com
Legacy Recordings and Experience Hendrix LLC are proud to announce the highly-anticipated release of West Coast Seattle Boy - The Jimi Hendrix Anthology, featuring more than four hours of rare and previously unreleased Jimi Hendrix music on a 5 Disc (4 CD/1 DVD) deluxe box set, available Tuesday, November 16.

The long-awaited career-spanning box set tracks Hendrix's remarkable journey from little known R&B sideman to international stardom through an unprecedented assemblage of previously unavailable recordings. Idol's Adam Lambert to play New Zealand

Controversial American Idol star Adam Lambert is set to perform in New Zealand for the first time.

The singer, who was runner-up in the reality show's eighth season, will perform at Trusts Stadium in Auckland on October 17.

He promises to bring his full audio-visual show, with a spectacal that combines 60s psycadelia, 70s disco and 80s glam-goth.

Lambert caused controversy at the American Music Awards last year with a sexually charged performance that included a kiss with his male keyboard player. Networks were flooded with complaints, but Lambert defended the show.

"I admit I did get carried away, but I don't see anything wrong with it. I do see how people got offended, and that was not my intention," he said.

"If it had been a female pop performer doing the moves that were on the stage, I don't think there'd be nearly as much of an outrage at all," Lambert added. "I think it's because I'm a gay male."

Tickets go on sale on September 13.

Metallica still to rock Christchurch

Rockers Metallica are refusing to let New Zealand's recent earthquakes stop them from performing for fans here.
Devotees feared three big quakes over the past five days, including a 7.1-magnitude one that hit the country's South Island, would prompt Metallica to postpone two sold-out shows set for Christchurch later this month (Sep10).
But the band insists the shows at the CBS Canterbury Arena - close to the epicentre of the earthquakes - will go ahead as planned on 21 and 22 September (10).
Engineers are currently assessing the 9,000-capacity venue for damage, but bosses insist it doesn't appear the arena has been damaged at all.

September's Band to keep an eye on - Lights

Intergalactic star Lights went from strength to strength back in 2009, starting out the year with a Juno Award for Best New Artist (previous recipients include Nelly Furtado and Avril Lavigne) and ending it on a high with the release of her debut album The Listening. Jump to the present and the young Canadian has once again been nominated for a Juno Award, this year in the ‘Pop Album of the Year’ category alongside Michael Buble and Justin Bieber. Currently on tour with chart sensation Owl City for five months (January – May 2010) followed by a brief tour of the UK, Lights travels mean you have no excuse not to make it out to a show, unless of course – like many – they’re already sold out! 2010 is going to be a big year for the rather little Canadian artist.

Artists scramble to get on the Bieber train

"I've got a lot of surprises for you tonight," Justin Bieber  promised fans at the start of his sold-out, first-ever headlining concert at Madison Square Garden (Aug. 31)-- and he wasn't kidding. Everyone from Miley Cyrus, Sean Kingston and Jaden Smith to Boyz II Men, Usher and Ludacris  joined the 16-year-old pop phenom onstage for a show frantically paced and carefully calibrated to hold the attention of his tween army.

The surplus of guest appearances was no coincidence. Bieber's MSG show was being taped for his  upcoming 3-D biopic  ("Everyone in this audience is gonna be in my movie!" he told the crowd), and the singer appropriately pulled out all the stops for the cameras. After kicking off his under two-hour set with the Cardigans-inspired "Love Me" -- from his debut album "My World," released less than one year ago -- Bieber introduced Boyz II Men to assist him on new single "U Smile," which this week marks his highest debut to date on Billboard's Pop Songs chart (No. 33). Bieber then returned the favor by introducing a new generation to Boyz II Men's hit ballad "On Bended Knee," singing it with the group a cappella. "These people are the ones who made me want to start singing," he explained, dedicating the song to his mother.

Lionel Richie's commercial for potato chips

It's the first ad that Richie, known for hits such as 'Hello' and 'Dancing On The Ceiling,' has appeared in for 30 years.

He explained why he decided to agree to the project. "Once I found out that it came with enough laughs to make your sides split, then I said, 'I'm in.' Because it's got to be humorous."

Whats next, you're once, twice, three times as crunchy...
