Has Katy Perry cheated to equal Jackson's record?

Katy Perry has tied Michael Jackson's record for the most No. 1 singles from the same album. The pop star accomplished the prestigious title when her latest song Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F) got to the top spot on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.

It is her fifth hit from her album Teenage Dream and she now shares the joint honour with Michael Jackson's Bad album which was released in 1987.

But did she cheat her way to the top? Some commenter's have pointed out some of the ways she got her #1's to #1

The studio version of Last Friday Night was unable to get to #1 alone so she released an remix a few days ago and for "charting purposes" it charted under the name "Last Friday Night". She also reduced the price of her songs to 69c in a desperate bid to try and get to #1.

Michael Jackson NEVER did this. He never released new remixes to help him get higher in the charts nor did he have to lower his prices. I have no idea if Katy got the other #1's fairly (If she did, that's really awesome and congrats to her!) but one thing for sure is that she does not deserve this title until she is able to get one more #1 fairly and without pulling this crap off.

Katy's other tracks that topped the charts from the album are California Gurls, Teenage Dream, Firework and ET.

Michael's songs that made it to number one are I Just Can't Stop Loving You, Bad, The Way You Make Me Feel, Man in the Mirror and Dirty Diana.

Blink-182 - New album Neighborhoods

Eight years since Blink-182 released their last album. Frontman Mark Hoppus has said the band are expanding beyond their radio friendly punk sound for the album, and "Up All Night" kicks off with some experimental (well, for Blink-182) guitar riffage and a quasi-ska drum beat.

And just released After Midnight. Band member Mark Hoppus told BBC Radio 1 that 'After Midnight' was a song written and recorded after they had postponed their UK tour - so there is a silver lining.

Taylor Swift adds another show to her NZ tour

Her first two New Zealand shows were instant sell-outs, so Taylor Swift has announced it will be third time lucky for many of her Kiwi fans.
The four-time Grammy winner is hot property, with shows scheduled for March 16 and 17 selling out at a lightning pace. A third show has been confirmed for March 18.

Throughout her worldwide Speak Now tour, Swift has performed a number of cover songs, including tracks by Mumford & Sons and Uncle Kracker, as well as covering songs of artists from whatever city she happens to be playing in. In Canada, she covered Justin Bieber, in New Jersey she performed Bon Jovi; in addition, she played Fall Out Boy in Chicago and even Eminem in Detroit. What will she play in NZ?

Heart Strings for Christchurch

Six of New Zealand's biggest music stars are to receive guitars made from timber recovered from the ruins of buildings destroyed in the Christchurch earthquakes.

The stars will use the "Heart Strings" guitars in concert before they are eventually auctioned to raise money for Christchurch.

Fly My Pretties frontman Barnaby Weir has been given one of the guitars.

"It's a clever concept and a great cause," said Weir, who embarks on a solo tour with Anika Moa next month, and then with Fly My Pretties in October. "I'm definitely keen to shred the gat on a few songs."

The project is the brainchild of Jason Pickering, who lost his home in the February quake, and is also the idea of his father Bruce. They wanted to give a piece of history a new lease of life as a musical instrument.

The Sunday Star-Times understands the other guitars will go to Dave Dobbyn, Don McGlashan, Op Shop's Jason Kerrison, Anna Coddington and Cairo Knife Fight's Aaron Tokona.

The guitars will be auctioned in November, and a seventh – the Memorial guitar – will be donated to the Christchurch Art Gallery.

20 Years today since Pearl Jam - Ten was released

Ten is the debut studio album by the American grunge band Pearl Jam, released on August 27, 1991 through Epic Records. Following the disbanding of bassist Jeff Ament and guitarist Stone Gossard's previous group Mother Love Bone, the two recruited vocalist Eddie Vedder, guitarist Mike McCready, and drummer Dave Krusen to form Pearl Jam in 1990. Most of the songs began as instrumental jams, to which Vedder added lyrics about topics such as depression, homelessness, and abuse.

Ten was not an immediate success, but by late 1992 it had reached number two on the Billboard 200 chart. The album produced three hit singles: "Alive", "Even Flow", and "Jeremy". While Pearl Jam was accused of jumping on the grunge bandwagon at the time, Ten was instrumental in popularizing alternative rock in the mainstream.[1] The album has been certified diamond by the RIAA in the United States, selling over 9,800,000 copies, and remains Pearl Jam's most successful album.

Auckland leg of the #PJ20 (Pearl Jam 20 Years) teasure hunt

A worldwide treasure hunt by grunge rockers Pearl Jam leading up to the release of their new album included a prize hidden in Auckland.

The album, the soundtrack to their upcoming documentary Pearl Jam Twenty, includes 29 live tracks recorded during shows around the world and is being released on September 20.

The band hid the album’s song titles on posters in cities where each of the tracks was recorded and used clues to reveal them online as they were found by fans.

Sony Music - Chris Barry was the first to find the hidden Pearl Jam song title in Auckland.

Track six on the album, Blood, was recorded during an Auckland concert and the song title was found at The Fiddler bar in Auckland this afternoon by a fan called Chris Barry.

It took him about an hour to find the poster after the clue – “A fiddler plays across the street from this Auckland skyscraper” – was posted online.

August 16, 1977: Elvis Presley found dead in the bathroom of Graceland age 42

Elvis starred in 33 successful films, made history with his television appearances and specials, and knew great acclaim through his many, often record-breaking, live concert performances on tour and in Las Vegas. Globally, he has sold over one billion records, more than any other artist. His American sales have earned him gold, platinum or multi-platinum awards. Among his many awards and accolades were 14 Grammy nominations (3 wins) from the National Academy of Recording Arts & Sciences, the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award which he received at age 36, and his being named One of the Ten Outstanding Young Men of the Nation for 1970 by the United States Jaycees. Without any of the special privileges, his celebrity status might have afforded him, he honorably served his country in the U.S. Army.

His talent, good looks, sensuality, charisma, and good humor endeared him to millions, as did the humility and human kindness he demonstrated throughout his life. Known the world over by his first name, he is regarded as one of the most important figures of twentieth century popular culture. Elvis died at his Memphis home, Graceland, on August 16, 1977.

This year also marks the 55th anniversary of the release of the first two Elvis albums. In just that first year, 1956, Elvis sold 10 million singles and 800,000 LPs.

20 Years today since Metallica ("The Black Album") was released

Metallica (also known as "The Black Album") is the eponymous fifth studio album by the American heavy metal band Metallica. It was released on August 13, 1991 through Elektra Records. Metallica produced five hit singles that are considered today among the band's best-known songs: "Enter Sandman", "The Unforgiven", "Nothing Else Matters", "Wherever I May Roam", and "Sad but True".

It spent four consecutive weeks at number one on Billboard 200. Metallica is the band's best-selling album to date, with over 15 million copies sold in the United States. It is the best-selling album of the SoundScan era. The album was certified 15x platinum (diamond) by the RIAA on November 13, 2009.

Metallica was a departure from the thrash metal style of Metallica's previous four albums and saw the band moving towards a more commercial heavy metal sound. Many fans consider the album the initial turning point in their music, where "old" and "new" Metallica are distinguished from one another.
