Another of 2010’s early breakthrough artists, Marina & The Diamonds was already dominating the charts in the UK with her debut album The Family Jewels and infectious first single ‘Hollywood’. The glamorous Welsh star may come second to fellow artist Ellie Goulding in some critics eyes – Diamandis came runner up to Goulding in both the BBC Sound Poll and Brit Awards – but to her loyal fans, also referred to as her ‘Diamonds’, she will always be number one. Luckily for Diamandis her ‘Diamonds’ can be found across the world and aren’t quite so difficult to find, so much so that her entire first headlining tour sold out before the release of The Family Jewels meaning her shows across Europe and United States will be packed full of treasure. For those impatient to hear new material from the 24-year old- fear not, the singer has been working with producer of the moment Benny Blanco (Katy Perry, Ke$ha, Britney Spears) in LA and has dropped hints that she may release an extended edition of her debut album, similar to Lady Gaga’s re-release of Fame Monster.

Tyler to join Idol
First two sources told The Hollywood Reporter that Aerosmith frontman Steven Tyler had already worked out a deal to judge the next season of American Idol. Now Aerosmith bassist Todd Hamilton is also confirming the news:American Idol producers won't announce the season 10 judges panel until next month, but Aerosmith bassist Tom Hamilton has all but confirmed that Steven Tyler will be occupying one of the seats left by Ellen DeGeneres and Simon Cowell. "Steven is doing American Idol. The ink is dry on that," Hamilton told the Newark Star-Ledger . "Steven is someone who absolutely lives to be in front of an audience, and the people closest to him know how witty and entertaining he can be. I don't know if American Idol will be rock 'n' roll enough for him, but it is an opportunity for millions of people to see another side of Steven Tyler."

New Plymouth to host the loudest guitar lesson
![]() |
| CAMERON BURNELL/The Taranaki Daily News |
"There is the world's loudest band, audience and guitar player so we thought we would give it a go," Mr Tahuaroa said.
The music teacher has been chatting to Guinness officials about the attempt and all signs so far are positive.
"We have been emailing and while I am not paying for an adjudicator to come down, we have noise scientists."
Mr Tahuaroa has already busted a speaker on a practice run, which saw levels reach 118 decibels, but he has a heavy duty one for the real deal.
"We are obviously doing the attempt in our sound-proof room and we are wearing ear plugs and acoustic earmuffs."
He says the lesson will only be about five or 10 minutes as he is not looking to bother neighbours and their pets. His mate and The Rock disc jockey Paul "The Axeman" Martin will be receiving the lesson for the record. The level he wants to achieve is 120 decibels which is intolerable to the human ear.
"At that kind of level, you can feel your insides moving."
The independent noise scientists will provide the equipment needed to measure the decibels for the record attempt. Mr Tahuaroa says he plans to make the record and will be prepared to defend it in the future, even if it does not end up an official record.
"Guinness is very interested in it and I would be challenging other music teachers to take on the challenge."
Once the lesson is complete, noise scientists will collaborate the data and take it to Guinness officials.
"If they tick all the right boxes then we have set a record but if not, at the very least we have set the New Zealand record."

I Am Giant to play @ The Basement in New Plymouth
Before I Am Giant head off to Australia and America, the band decided to sneak in a couple of extra New Zealand shows.
‘We were getting fans hitting us up on Facebook wanting us to play in their town, and since we had a weekend free before going overseas, we thought it would be a great thing to do !’ says drummer Shelton Woolright.
The gigs wraps up a few whirlwind months which have seen the band shoot a video featuring world surf champion Kelly Slater, recorded a live to air for XFM in the UK, complete a handful of London gigs, performed in Vietnam for Tiger Translate, fly to France to play at the opening of the new Quiksliver headquarters and tour New Zealand on the massively successful State of Rock tour.
I Am Giant’s first ever release, the ‘Neon Sunrise/City Limits EP’, recently debuted in the NZ singles chart at No 18 and is still in the Top 30. The EP will also be released later this year in Australia and Asia via Sony Records.

U2's new song
Footage of U2 rehearsing a new song has surface online and you can watch it by scrolling down.
The short film was captured by fans who are camped out near the gates of the Stadio Olimpico di Torino in Italy.
The group are rehearsing at the venue head of their gig on Friday (August 6), their first since Bono underwent back surgery, which forced them to cancel a number of US shows and their headline slot at Glastonbury.
As U2Tours.com reports, Bono and co have also been heard rehearsing a number of songs including 'Get On Your Boots', 'Magnificent' and 'Hold Me, Thrill Me, Kiss Me, Kill Me', the band's 1995 single from the Batman Forever soundtrack

August's Band to keep an eye on - The Swellers
The Swellers
Back in 09′ the punk outfit became better known worldwide when they signed to indie label Fueled By Ramen and released their fourth full-length Ups And Downsizing to universal acclaim. Being no strangers to touring – “We tour because we’re not good at anything else. We love our songs and want to play them all night and see our friends, so we go on tour” – the band impressed concertgoers when they opened for label-mates Paramore and toured with the likes of Set Your Goals and Less Than Jake. In 2010 the boys are stepping it up a notch as they join the Give It A Name Introduces Tour (which brought the UK Lights and Versaemerge in 09′) across the UK and Europe as well as a three-week stint on the legendary Vans Warped Tour. The live environment is where The Swellers belong, it’s where both the music and band come to life, so I strongly suggest you make your way over to see them before they start selling out venues!
