Day 5 - Instagram

NZCC 2013 Blog Challenge Day 5 - Instagram

One photo with the description of where the image was taken and what filters and frames were used.

I'm actually not a huge fan of Instagram, as my phone has all sorts of filters and frames that let me have just as much fun with less hassle and no cropping. Here's an Instagram of our 1953 Wurlitzer and a standard android filter for comparison:

It's a shame to crop out so much awesome.
The Wurlitzer 1700f in all its glory.

Day 4 - Childhood Memory

NZCC 2013 Blog Challenge Day 4 - Childhood Memory

0800 Jukebox is a family business, starting with arcade machines in Hawera over 30 years ago. We've since grown to include party jukeboxes and professional music systems, but my favourite childhood memories are of growing up in the arcade (yes, it was awesome!).

A childhood surrounded by arcade machines has led to my own basement full of games and I've recently acquired Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles:

Clocking this game over and over again with my brother is one of my best childhood memories, and I'm looking forward to sharing it with my kids - I may even let them win!

Day 3 – Food

NZCC 2013 Blog Challenge Day 3 - Food

Today’s blog topic is Food – Share your favourite food or meal and the story behind it.

Well, this one is a toss up between deep fried Twinkies & Oreos:

... and a giant M&M:

Tastes like... sweat.
... either way, all of my favourite food experiences so far (Medieval Times, Haagen Dazs, hotel buffets, and Hooters) happened during two weeks in Las Vegas.

Oh, and we went to Hooters for the wings.

Day 2 – Photo Story

NZCC 2013 Blog Challenge Day 2 - Photo Story

Today’s blog topic is Photo Story – Document your day in images

For the 0800 Jukebox crew, today started by pulling out all the lolly wrappers from the arcade machines at the cinema (a typical school school holiday ritual!). Then it was installing and testing a horse racing machine. Beating the work mate at said testing = highlight of the day.

Replacing the lamps and cheating at basketball (and his score is still zero!)

Then it was out down to Hawera:

and then the rest of the day was buried in:

Day 1 – Playlist

NZCC 2013 Blog Challenge Day 1 - Playlist

Today’s blog topic is Playlist - Choose five songs and tell us why.

Okay, let's do this! :)

Holly cowbells Batman! Five songs? There's no way I can narrow it down to five, maybe five genres... I can tell you what we just listened to on vinyl (you remember those, don't you?)

If that doesn't get stuck in your head all day, this might help:

Top ten most played songs from the jukebox at the old White Hart hotel:

  1. Rose Tattoo - Rock 'n' Roll Outlaw
  2. Prodigy - Fire Starter
  3. The Police - Roxanne
  4. Tool - Stinkfist
  5. Sublime - Santeria
  6. George Thorogood - 1 Bourbon, 1 Scotch, 1 Beer
  7. System Of A Down - B.Y.O.B.
  8. Alabama3 - Woke Up This Morning (Sopranos theme)
  9. Talking Heads - Psycho Killer
  10. Sticky Filth - Weep Woman Weep

Most played CD

  1. Bob Marley - Legend
  2. New Plymouth Rocks Hard
  3. Sticky Filth - Archives
  4. The Doors - Greatest Hits
  5. Talking Heads - Stop Making Sense

If you're having trouble finding 5 songs the current list of albums on our jukeboxes for party hire might help :)

PSY new single "Gentle Man" out now!

PSY new single "Gentle Man" out now on

Korean techno, puns & ‘‘I am a party mafia!’’ plus ‘‘I am a mother father gentleman’’ in true PSY style should keep the fans happy... but what about the dance moves?

Well you will have to wait until he performs Gentleman in public for the first time on Saturday (Seoul time) at a concert at Seoul’s World Cup stadium, but he has been coy about what dance to expect this time, except to hint that it is based on traditional Korean moves.

‘‘All Koreans know this dance, but (those in) other countries haven’t seen it,’’ PSY told a South Korean TV station.

Well we all could he guessed that. Will it be as big as Gangman style? We will have to wait and see.

Could PJ Harvey front a Nirvana reunion?

As originally posted by http://www.nme.com/news/dave-grohl/69312#FUkgeezFEghYwbGA.99

Dave Grohl has revealed that he asked PJ Harvey to join the remaining Nirvana members on stage to replace Kurt Cobain.

Speaking in this week's NME, which is on newsstands from today or available digitally, the Foo Fighters frontman said that he approached Harvey to play with his Sound City players – the band featured in his documentary about the California studio where Nirvana recorded 'Nevermind'.

When asked if he would ever cover a Nirvana track live, he said: "Every once in a while we talk about it. For the Sound City gig here in London we were thinking about musicians that we could invite because Stevie Nicks and John Fogerty couldn't make it. Someone came up with the idea of doing a Nirvana song with PJ Harvey. Kurt loved her and we love her and we thought, 'Yeah, what would we do?' I said: 'God, what if we were to do 'Milk It' from 'In Utero' with Polly singing?' We all looked at each other like, 'Woah, that would be amazing…' and then she couldn't do it!"

He continued: "The thing is, it's sacred ground. If we were ever to do something like that it would have to be right because you want to pay tribute. There's a reason Foo Fighters don't do Nirvana songs, and it's a good reason."

Read the full interview with Dave Grohl, in which he talks about playing with Paul McCartney, why TV talent shows are shit and why he'll never retire in this week's NME which is on newsstands now or available digitally
