Cup of Gaga

Lady Gaga is set to become the face of Twinings tea, who may create a new flavour in her honour.

The flamboyant singer's love of the hot beverage is well-documented. She regularly requests the drink during interviews, and is often seen in public with her pet tea cup and saucer.

Gaga has apparently been approached by several tea companies who think she would be the perfect choice to front their campaigns. However, she is particularly enamoured with Twinings, who are said to have offered her a multi-million-pound deal.

Twinings are an English firm dating back 300 years, and are famed for offering many different flavours of the drink. It is this which appeals to Gaga, especially as there is talk of a new flavour being invented just for her.

"Her management have received a load of offers from major tea companies but Twinings are the front-runners. They want to launch a new tea with her face on it and discussions are taking place at the top level," a source told British newspaper The Sun.

"Names like The Taste Of Gaga are being batted about. The idea is to have tasting sessions in which she would participate.

"The tasters are coming up with a tea with an oriental flavour. They want to market tea to a new, younger generation - particularly in America, and Gaga is making drinking tea cool again."

Gaga performed at Sir Elton John’s White Tie And Tiara Ball in June, and he presented her with a vintage teapot to say thanks.

During an appearance on a British television show last year, Gaga refused to leave her cup backstage and answered questions while sipping the beverage.

July's Band to keep an eye on - The Rocket Summer

The Rocket Summer

Bryce Avary started off the year with a bang as he released the highly anticipated new album, Of Men and Angels which deservedly reached the top spot at 1# in the itunes chart. To accompany the new record Avary will be on the road for the majority of the year having already booked shows up until the end of August! Not only is he touring the states with chart toppers One Republic AND legendary rock group The Goo Goo Dolls but he’s also confirmed to play Slamdunk festival in the UK – as well as a handful of headlining shows – and the whole of this years Vans Warped Tour. An incredible feat for any artist but there’s no doubt that hardworking TRS will add more tour dates as the year goes on. 2010 looks set to be a good year for TRS.

Korn to play in crop circle

Korn will perform for an hour and twenty minutes inside the mysterious crop circle that was recently revealed in the final installment of a viral web campaign. The band worked closely with longtime UK-based circle makers, circlemakers.org, on the shadowy design which features a series of intricate circles, one of which includes the iconic Korn logo, and stretches over 920 feet long and 350 feet wide. The concert event, which is a first for a rock band, takes inspiration from the eerie atmosphere of Pink Floyd's legendary Live at Pompei.

Just for fun - I Kissed A Nerd (Katy Perry Parody)

Lyrics
I don’t date guys from marching band
Or Trek Conventions
But you showed me your “vulcan hand”
Made an impression
Jocks are what I’m used to
Just want your big neurons
One interface with you
Caused my defection

I kissed a nerd and I liked it
The taste of his acne-chapped lips
I kissed a nerd, can’t describe it
I told my boyfriend to hike it
Taped-glasses on
Plaid pants so tight
I think I’m in love tonight
I kissed a nerd and I liked it
I liked it

No, I don’t know all of the names
For antimatter
For you I’ll do roleplaying games
And learn to factor
It’s not what cool girls do
I’ll be your Leia slave
Leet skillz make me want to
Ride your sine wave

I kissed a nerd and I liked him
The face of a mathlete mavrick
I kissed a nerd, just for science
Now my boyfriend is a Tri-Lam
Starcraft archons
And Counterstrike
We’ll be doing it all night
I kissed a nerd and I liked it
I liked it

I thought nerds were detestable
Chess-playing, pale, bespectacled
Hard to believe they’re sexual
Now I can’t deny it
Ain’t no way we’ll be abstinent
I kissed a nerd and I liked it
The taste of his enormous beep beep

I kissed a nerd, you should try it
Can’t dance but he can grind it
It was so long
It felt so right
He’ll access my hub tonight
I kissed a nerd and I liked it
I liked it

Justin Bieber topples Lady Gaga for most YouTube hits

Justin Bieber has overtaken Lady GaGa's video 'Bad Romance' for scoring the most hits on YouTube.

The 16-year-old's single 'Baby', featuring Ludacris, has clocked up more than 250 million hits, usurping Gaga into second place with 247.6 million views.

The singer thanked his fans on Twitter before praising his rival, adding: "I just need to say that @ladygaga is an incredible artist who have great respect for. And her vid is incredible.

"Thank you all for caring. Just want you to know I care too and I'm just a normal kid. Thanks."

Undercover karaoke

On a recent Monday night at a Los Angeles karaoke bar, a meek-looking woman in a business suit and glasses was coaxed on stage by her co-workers.

While the boozy crowd readied itself for four minutes of awkward singing, the woman - "Karen" - suddenly belted out exquisite, pitch-perfect renditions of the Jewel songs Who Will Save Your Soul and Foolish Games.

Astonished crowd members picked their jaws off the floor and cheered wildly. One person was heard comparing Karen to "an American Susan Boyle".

Unbeknownst to them, they had been victims of "undercover karaoke".

Karen really was Jewel, and the proceedings had been filmed by FunnyOrDie.com, the comedy video website co-founded by Will Ferrell and Adam McKay. The video was posted Tuesday and was rapidly circulating online.

"I was a bit nervous to do this skit at first because I feared it would amount to little more than showing off some vocals, dressed as someone else," Jewel said in an email.

"I was worried it wouldn't be self-effacing enough."

For the video, created by Funny or Die writer-director Eric Appel, Jewel was given a prosthetic nose, wig and glasses, and butt padding. Only after performing as Karen did Jewel return to the stage of the karaoke joint, the Gas Lite, as herself.

Before the reveal, one audience member says to the camera: "They tell me she only sings at Christmas parties."

Though Jewel is principally a singer-songwriter, she has acted before, most notably in the 1999 Ang Lee film Ride with the Devil.

This performance was quite a bit quicker - Funny or Die contacted her just a few days before taping on June 28 - and more comical.

"This did not require much, as the costume did most of the work for me," said Jewel, whose full name is Jewel Kilcher.

"I love improv and this was a small chance to do that, luckily as someone else. I would love to do more of it in the future. A dream gig would be a show like Curb Your Enthusiasm."

Jewel also shot another video for Funny or Die that she says involves former Alaska Governor Sarah Palin. A spokeswoman for the site said it will be released next week.

Party Tip: Best laid plans

Some of the ideas you first thought to do at the party / reunion / wedding that didn't make on the final list, can be a back up if something doesn't work out the way you had it on paper.

Don't point out things that don't turn out the way you had planned, nobody knows all the plans but you anyway!

Metallica to play Christchurch - update

Metallica have added yet another concert to their New Zealand itinerary.

The band will now play at the CBS Canterbury Arena on September 21 and 22, weeks before their sold-out shows at Auckland's Vector Arena.

September 21 and 22: Christchurch, CBS Canterbury Arena
October 13 and 14: Auckland, Vector Arena

Heavy metal heavyweights Metallica will play a show in Christchurch, following an online campaign from South Island fans which attracted over 11,000 supporters.

The band will play at the CBS Canterbury Arena on September 22, weeks before their sold-out shows at Auckland's Vector Arena.

In a statement issued in response to a Facebook campaign, the band said "sometimes, you do get what you want! You asked (okay, demanded!) and we heard ya."

Metallica's last New Zealand appearance was in 2004 on the Auckland leg of the Big Day Out tour. The band has not headlined its own New Zealand tour since 1998, when it played shows in Auckland and Wellington in support of the 1997 album, ReLoad.

Because of limitations presented by the Christchurch arena, the band's full concert setup will not be used on September 22. The 360 degree stage setup has been used on Metallica's World Magnetic tour since 2008 and will be seen at both Auckland shows.

"It's gonna be us and YOU old-school 'club style' in an arena making a whole lot of noise together, and that's what counts."

A presale for fanclub members will open on Friday, July 9, while a public presale will go live at midday on Tuesday, July 13. They will sell fast!

July's Band to keep an eye on - Azriel

Azriel

Shred favorites Azriel ended 09′ on a high as they joined music management group The Artery Foundation, being one of the first UK bands to do so. Even after a relentless touring schedule last year it seems that the boys had enough in them for one more European tour supporting US band For The Fallen Dreams in March before they head into the studio to record their brand new album; slated for release later this year. The teaser of some new songs with demos on their myspace page and at live shows have got people seriously excited to hear what comes next from the melodic metalcore five-piece.
