Yo stop, collaborate and listen. Ice is back with a....home improvement show!

“After his chart-topping hit, ‘Ice Ice Baby,’ Rob turned his focus on a new hobby, buying land and flipping houses.” for a new home improvement show on the DIY network.

The series, beginning Thursday on the DIY, is not just another paean to celebrity failure. No; it is instead a tribute to ingenuity, to turning lemons into lemonade, to get up and go, when you get up and go to Home Depot. The show follows Mr. Van Winkle through a single renovation over the course of 10 episodes as he overhauls, corner by corner, a 7,000-square-foot house on a lake in Palm Beach, Fla. — a house that doesn’t say Addison Mizner as much as it says boom-era Gothic revival McMansion down on its luck. Every appliance and fixture had been stripped out of its socket by its desperate owners. Mr. Van Winkle scooped the place up for $429,000 as it was headed toward foreclosure. He hopes to turn it around for sale at about a million bucks.

It isn’t by whim that you wind up earning a living with jackhammers when you once had the fastest-selling hip-hop album around. But this is no downfall. This resurrection is holy. As he proves in “The Vanilla Ice Project,” Mr. Van Winkle has talent. The next time you renovate, you will dream of Ice and what he can do with bricklaying and budgets.

Impressively conversant on the subject of landscaping, he is a big proponent of curb appeal and sets about in the initial episodes dressing up the house’s front and backyards. He is a walking lesson plan in horticultural fact: “Every time you see a coconut palm, you know you’re south of Orlando,” he tells us. He also knows how to deal with alkaline issues when they come up with plants. “We’ll change the pH levels of what’s going on down here with these roots and pretty much remedy this problem,” he announces to one of his sidekicks. He likes colorful perennials and landscape lighting for walkways, and believes that foxtails aren’t good near a pool.

This is the kind of knowledge base that ought to be rewarded at a premium. If someone is going to profit from the depressed South Florida real estate market, let it be Vanilla Ice, a man who can get his hands full of grout and call the right electricians to lay down the feeder cable.

Guy Sebastian blows it...

Singer Guy Sebastian is the second Australian star in a week to learn the hard way that live television is a dangerous business.

The X Factor judge made an embarrassing gaffe while introducing one of the acts on the live talent show.

He began by explaining how he had met the all-girl act Mahogany he had been mentoring on the show.

"Well, I met these girls on a tour that I did a little while ago, and they blew me away then, and then they walked into the audition room and blew me again," Sebastian said, before realising what he had just said.

Hollies to play New Plymouth's Bowl of Brooklands

http://www.prideofmanchester.com/music/hollies.htm
The Hollies will play at New Plymouth's TSB Bowl of Brooklands on February 6 as part of a seven-stop New Zealand tour.

The show will be the third time the English rock group have performed at the Bowl, first appearing there in the mid-70s.

The New Zealand tour coincides with the release of their new compilation album, The Midas Touch, which focuses on the group's 60s and 70s recordings.

Promoter Ian Magan, of Pacific Entertainment, described the band as "pop royalty."
"The Hollies have a pedigree most groups can only dream of," he said.

The band will also perform at Tauranga, Matakana, Christchurch, Nelson, Wellington and Auckland.

Unlike so many groups of their day, the Hollies have continued touring and recording with the current six-piece line up Tony Hicks, Bobby Elliott, Ray Stiles, Ian Parker, Steve Lauri and lead vocalist Peter Howarth.

The Hollies were inducted to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame this year. Among their hits are Air That I Breathe, He Ain't Heavy, He's My Brother, Bus Stop, Long Cool Woman and Carrie Ann.

Tickets go on sale October 9 at Ticketmaster.

October's Band to keep an eye on - Paper Route

Nashville indie rockers Paper Route also made a successful year out of 2009; in April they released their major label debut Absence on Universal Records – which reached 13# on the Billboard heatseekers chart – and in December they finished the year in spectacular fashion by supporting Paramore on their UK Brand New Eyes Tour. Of course, much else also happened in between!

Youtube billionaires - Gaga or Bieber?

Lady Gaga and Justin Bieber are both approaching a major milestone of the new music industry: one billion all-time YouTube views.

Lady Gaga should pass one billion views around October 20 if she continues on her current pace, according to David Birch, communications director at TubeMogul. During September, she averaged almost 1.8 million views per day.

Birch says Bieber will surpass the 1 billion views milestone around November 1 if he keeps up his current pace. During September, Bieber's videos were viewed about 3.7 million times per day.

Even though Lady Gaga will be the first to the one billion mark, TubeMogul data shows that lately Bieber has been the hotter of the two and has been YouTube's most-viewed music artist. From July 1 to September 28, according to TubeMogul data supplied to Billboard, Bieber averaged 3.98 million daily views to Lady Gaga's 2.04 million views per day.

Bieber has been hot since winter. Since February 28, Bieber has averaged 3.83 million daily views while Lady Gaga has averaged 2.53 million.

Soundgarden new album shipped with Guitar Hero

After a 13-year break, Soundgarden is releasing its new album through the Guitar Hero video game series - and its frontman believes it's the perfect way to reintroduce the band to a new generation.

"In the obvious way, it's going to reach a certain amount of younger people that either may or may not know about Soundgarden," frontman Chris Cornell said in a recent interview.

"No matter what, I feel like releasing it this way is going to reach a lot of people who have not heard our music or have not heard a lot of it.

Telephantasm is a retrospective CD that features some of the grunge band's biggest hits from its 1990s heyday, as well as unreleased cuts.

It was released this week as part of Guitar Hero: Warriors of Rock. It's being touted as the first time a new album has been released in conjunction with a video game; it's already been declared platinum, based on the games shipped. It will be released this week as a traditional CD.

Cornell said this isn't the first time Soundgarden has had its music featured in a video game, but this new partnership is a rarity, and the Guitar Hero partnership is the perfect marriage.

"I thought about doing this ever since I've heard about the game and what it is. I think the musical arrangements lend itself so well to what the video game is," the 46-year-old singer said.
